Some info… Suggest your ideas !
XFruits has been designed as an upgradeable system. As a result, our service can receive many new bricks that will be accessible by entering the same login.

At present, four components are available:

  • Aggregator RSS: creates an RSS 2.0 file unifying several feeds (RSS, ATOM,OPML), organized by date. For the moment, the number of feeds is limited to 20.

  • RSS to Web: creates an XHTML 1.0 Strict web page from an RSS or ATOM feed.

  • RSS to Mobile: changes your RSS or ATOM feed into a site for mobile, with a simplified surfing.

  • Post to RSS: send your messages to an xFruits address, an RSS feed is created as a result. Particularly useful for a collaborative blog – beforehand, you must authorize the addresses likely to post.

At the time the first xFruits screenshots were presented, many people spontaneously gave us ideas on new components to create.
In order to get your suggestions, I will develop a brick for submitting an idea.

A voting system will be set to evaluate your suggestions’ relevance. The best ones will help to the application’s further development.

I use a dialup connection for internet browsing so I a have realy big problem when I try to use my personalized netvibes home page to explore my favorite blogs because it must connect to all my selected weblogs and download their rss feeds and display it to me. However I think you solved this problem for me by combining all my fav. blogs at your server and presenting it to my netvibes home page. so Thank you!
However I noticed a small problem with utf-8 titles for feeds that your sevice generates. It is not being displayed correctly (my lang is Persian).
Also I like to have an option for number of entries listed in each feed. It may reduce feed download time for me if I can choose for example 50 or 25 new entries in each feed.

I corrected the UTF8 encoding problems.

About the options, we'll develop a settings form for each xFruits service.
You'll set number of entries, number of feeds (for aggregator), refreshing time, etc.
We'll post on this blog an article about it in a few days.

Hi geneboy,

Your feed is private, so nobody can access to it, even the feedvalidator.
Put it on public status and try again.

I love the ideas in xFruits guys but you may want to rethink the policy of including email addresses in the RSS feeds for Post to RSS feed fruits. I don't want spammers getting my email thank you very much!

Hi,

I can't find any "Bug report" page... :)

xFruits did't correctly recognize the item's url in feeds from Google Reader, it always send me to a 404 page.

Hi Bobchao,

It seems to work now.
Maybe your feed was in private status, and thus not visible for readers.
I've just sent a mail to you.

Hello, I am trying to create feeds that all center on one subject. I place the 1 main word in the tags, yet it brings up irrelevant information.

Also it seems to have stories that when you click on them they lead to my xfruit account and not the story.

Please help.

Thanks,

greate work man! good functionalities and cool interface: you have nice ideas.

just one thing: when I import my OPML (http://services.newsgator.com/ngws/svc/opml.aspx?uid=329866&mid=1) not all my feeds are imported.

and a couple of suggestions:
1) what about NNTP (newsgrouops) to RSS?
2) what about a dynamic subscription to an OPML link with the ability, for users, to indicate which are the desired feeds by an XPATH query? This would be pure service...

Hi, I have four blogs, and I cannot figure out why I am getting double posts on my aggregator feed. Can't figure it out for the life of me. Hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

24.Posted by Deborah on 2006-11-14 23:27
Actually, it is not corrected. I just got another double post today. Sometimes it double posts and sometimes it doesn't. No consistent bug. I have four blogs and a website, and I am posting (under new comment) the blog under the website that I got the double post on today. Is there something I can do to stop this? It is an aggregator feed.

25.Posted by Laurent Linza on 2006-11-16 10:30
Hi Deborah,

Not for the moment.
If double posts have a different "guid" tag (like here), they are both generated in the aggregator feed.
There's still no matching on title or date, for example.

Hi,

This feature is not available yet.
We'll probably set up in the next version an "RSS manager" brick aimed to edit or delete items.

How about storing a list of popular RSS feeds that would popup in a suggestion box underneath the text input field? Kinda like the auto-completer Scriptaculous has?

Or, you could have them separated out into categories with something like http://www.stringify.com/columnav/ which would be kind of neat also. I'm sure almost 70% of people on here share the same RSS feeds from big sites.

Just thought it'd be kinda neat and helpful.

33.Posted by Sprogz on 2007-02-26 13:56
It would be nice if you could produce a downloadable system-tray notifyier for Windows (and maybe Mac equivalent) that you could add XFruit feeds to (or any RSS feeds for that matter) and it would pop-up notification balloons when the feed changed?

I've looked all over for such a simple tool and the ones I've found have either not worked or been poorly implemented.

You could brand it XFruits-style and use it as a marketing tool. Like I said above, the competition for this tool is virtually none. You'd be the tool of choice I'm sure.

34.Posted by Laurent Linza on 2007-02-27 14:56
@Pier : Your feed seems to work now. This kind of trouble happens when the aggregator brick doesn't manage to parse the feeds you entered.

@Joe : Auto-complete box is a very good idea. But I think it would be more efficient if it would suggest feeds previsoulsy entered by the user (in other bricks), not by everyone. There is no big site source that comes permanently. For now, we've got more than 15000 differents sources and the most suggested (techrunch) is only used 80 times...

@Sprogz : Good idea too. xfruits widgets would be a great feature. Maybe in the versions...

--- reposted here (after posting in about-xfruits) ---
--- Sorry, didn't realise you had several comment sections ---

Hi Laurent,
thanks for all the nice, useful features around RSS. Too bad we still seem to have a digital divide regarding use of RSS.

I have a (minor) feature request for Post to RSS. Because there is no administration for the eMails that came in, sometimes deleting the xfruit and creating a new one is inevitable. But if you have 5 guys posting, you don't want to communicate a new eMail everytime. A mail list would do the job of redirecting posts to the Post to RSS xfruit. But it doesn't work because it seems that you not only check the FROM-field to filter out unsolicited stuff but also check the TO-field.

To enable redirecting could you please either take out the check routine for the TO-field or extend that to Envelope fields like DELIVERED-TO? It should be easy to do and would enhance usability quite a bit.

Thanks in advance,
Rudy

Give a new function: WEB TO RSS ! IS it a good idea?
http://vicoye.spaces.live.com/

37.Posted by Marc Jacobs on 2007-04-25 18:20
I echo the request for WEB to RSS. Specifically, I'd like to provide a URL and optionally an XPATH query and create an RSS feed of all changes to that page (or the content within that page referenced by the XPATH).

As an example, the MTA Metro-North Railroad post service alerts to http://mta.info/alert/alertmnr.htm. In particular, there is a div element on that page (xpath: //div[id='contentbox']) that contains the text of the service alert. I'd like to generate an RSS feed that has an entry for every update to that page (ideally, with content).

If then I could take that RSS feed and send it to my cell phone or blackberry (via mail or sms), I wouldn't wait forever at the train station when there are service interruptions.

Is it possible to introduce filter words for our feeds? For example: I may want to subscribe to a Major League Baseball feed, but I'd like articles that mention the Astros to go to one feed and articles mentioning the Rangers to go to another. Could I filter the feeds such as what is theoretically offered at feedshake.com? (Their service isn't working right now, it seems)

Hi, I was interested in forwarding Google Alerts to my xfruits using the Mail to RSS or Post to RSS bricks. I run into a problem with having to log into Google everytime I want to view the entries. Is there a way to circumvent that issue, especially if I don't want to save my password on public computers? Thanks!
